I fail pretty hard when I try to make some hard Techno and instead come out with an Ambient track.
That's basically what I'm working on right now, just some rough drafting with pads, atmosphere, FX, that kinda thing. Not sure what else to tell you guys, I don't even think anyone reads my blogs anyways. xD

You shouldnt aim for a specific genre, just make what you feel like.
Dont push it :P
BUT! if your really that desperate to make hard techno ( I really dont understand why you would want to make that but... ) Then you should lishten to alot of Techno before doing so. Els you wouldnt end up with ambience which is in a total different leageu then Techno! ( For starters the overall calm feeling (ambience) and pumping beats ( Techno ).
I think theres a genre in newgrounds thats techno, you might wanna check that out. altough most of it ( no offence ) sounds kinda noobish i sometimes get the best ideas of those tracks. and youtube helps alot too!
